Artie Yellowhorse, Navajo Jewelry
A drop-dead gorgeous large piece of natural Pietersite/Pietercite consisting of abstract sections of deep blue/grey/black and heavily fibrous chatoyant lighter areas of with gold accent.
This features the exquisitely precise sawcut silverwork by Artie's ace silversmith Henry Chackee. It includes twist wire and a single row of hand sawcut silver work with "pinching" (scooped areas in the perimeter).
First found in 1962, there are only two known sources of Pietersite in the world, Africa and China.
Pietersite is very difficult to photograph accurately because it color shifts in every variation of light. The accompanying photos show the piece under a variety of light conditions. The "brightest" colors are with the most direct light. The lighting on the other photos is from some kind of angle and/or distance. Unfortunately the beauty of the chatoyance is not adequately represented.
This is one of my favorite stones but Artie rarely has much on hand when I am in New Mexico (I prefer to choose my own pieces). This summer I was able to pick through a tray a raw stones. I had them make quite a few pendants and two cuffs for me (cuffs are gone).
I have pendants in both gold/brown dominant and blue dominant variations.
I'm so pleased to be able to offer a variety of Pietersite options.
