Artie Yellowhorse, Navajo
A good-sized piece of natural Pietersite/Pietercite consisting of abstract sections of deep brown/black and heavily fibrous chatoyant light golds, greys, and blues.
First found in 1962, there are only two known sources of Pietersite in the world, Africa and China.
It's really tough to photograph accurately because it color shifts in every variation of light. The accompanying photos show the piece under a variety of light conditions. The one with the "brightest" colors is with direct light over the pendant. The lighting on the other photos is from some kind of angle. Unfortunately the beauty of the chatoyance is not adequately represented.
This is one of my favorite stones but Artie rarely has much on hand when I am in New Mexico (I prefer to choose my own pieces). .
I have both gold/brown dominant and blue dominant variations.
The features the exquisitely precise sawcut silverwork by Artie's ace silversmith Henry Chackee. It includes twist wire and a double row of hand sawcut silver work with "pinching" (scooped areas in the perimeter).
I'm so pleased to be able to offer a varity of Pietersite options.
