Artie Yellowhorse, Navajo - New Mexico, USA
Another pair of unique and drop-dead gorgeous earrings from Artie.
Consisting of cabochons of natural Pietersite/Pietercite consisting of abstract sections of fibrous chatoyant olives and greys mixed with brown/gold. It is set in incredibly consistent handmade silver beads.
This is one of my favorite stones but historically Artie has been out of it when I am in New Mexico (I prefer to choose my own pieces). Summer of '17 found me picking through a tray a raw stones. I had them make cuffs, pendants, earrings, and rings. I had things made in both the gold/brown dominant and blue dominant variations. I still have a few left to post.
First found in 1962, there are only two known sources of Pietersite in the world, Africa and China.
Please don't ask me which picture represents the earrings best, they all do. Depending on the light, the colors are everything you see here and much more. It's really tough to photograph accurately because the color shifts in every variation of light.
The accompanying photos show the piece under a variety of light conditions. Unfortunately the beauty of the chatoyance cannot be adequately represented.
I've NEVER had someone tell me the pictures of Pietersite looked better than the item.
