Artie Yellowhorse, Navajo - New Mexico, USA
A gorgeous cabochon of natural Pietersite/Pietercite consisting of abstract sections of deep brown/gold and heavily fibrous chatoyant light golds, olives, and greys. It displays the incredibly difficult silver twist and burst dot work, all of which is hand done.
This is one of my favorite stones but it tends to be feast or famine getting it. I picked up a number of pendants, a few earrings, and an awesome ring.
I have both gold/brown dominant and blue dominant variations.
First found in 1962, there are only two known sources of Pietersite in the world, Africa and China.
It's very difficult to photograph accurately because it color shifts in every variation of light. The accompanying photos show the piece under a variety of light conditions. Unfortunately the beauty of the chatoyance cannot be adequately represented.
I've NEVER had someone tell me the pictures of Pietersite looked better than the item.
