Philbert is the son of the late great Richard Begay (1943 - 2013) and nephew of Abraham Begay. Fromthe first time I saw it I was drawn to Philbert's work of cuffs and pendants variously featuring horses, dragonflies, hummingbirds, or bears all with flowers and inlay. Some pieces are oxidized and some are highly polished silver. Each are a little bit different.
He and I have tried to get together on a purchase since the year his father passed; we finally hooked up at the end of Santa Fe Indian Market this year (2016). I picked up one of the few pieces he had left, a beautiful dragonfly cuff with turquoise inlay. It is our shared intention to expand on this.
