Artie Yellowhorse - Navajo
A large piece of natural Pietersite/Pietercite consisting of abstract sections of deep blue/black and heavily fibrous chatoyant lighter areas of blue. Finished in the double twist (rope & twist-wire) setting. This is extremely popular for those who find the burst beads too "busy".
This is one of my favorite stones but availability is catch as catch can. To see what else is currently posted, click here to view my Pietersite Collection. Note, there may be a stray item, or two, from other artists.
First found in 1962, there are only two known sources of Pietersite in the world, Africa and China.
Pietersite is very difficult to photograph accurately because it color shifts in every variation of light or angle. The accompanying photos show the piece under a variety of light conditions. The "brightest" colors are with the most direct light. Unfortunately the beauty of the chatoyance is not adequately represented.
