Travis Lasiloo, Zuni Fetish Carver, Zuni Pueblo, NM
This is a very special piece. I'm confident in saying, of the hundreds of items purchased, it is the single best item I acquired on my July 2017 buying trip and certainly the finest fetish I've managed to acquire for sale.
I circled around it for three days, coming back to it repeatedly and finally deciding, at the very last, there was no way I could leave it behind. If you are a serious collector you should look at this very carefully.
Take some time to look at the incredible detail in this work created from a single piece of stone. The area between the two birds is particularly intriguing given the extremely limited access space to execute the designs. You will see this level of detail in some of the finer antler carvings BUT - THIS IS STONE.
I have photographed it upright, from all angles and lying flat from various angles.
Travis is a member of the vast extended fetish carving families that include the late Staley Natewa, the late Bremette Epaloose; the Cheamas - Wilfred, Arvella, Vivian, Fabian, and Lance; Kenny Chavez, and Hudson Sandy - among many, many others.
Remember to check the dimensions - the photos are extreme close-ups.
