Michael Sanchez. Zuni Fetish Carver
This exceptionally well formed Buffalo is a very unique piece; I've never seen anything quite like it. After seeing this I wish the artists worked with the material more often. It is mostly a gold metallic appearance interspersed with a small amount of something white (quartz?) The white stone is most prevalent on the left side. The carving is extremely dense and heavy for it's size (it would REALLY hurt if someone threw it at you.)
As if it wasn't enough that the stone is so unusual, the animal has eyes and beautifully crafted horns of turquoise.
I've had a heck of time trying to get a decent photo of this.
This is one of those pieces that I really covet for myself; I don't expect to see this again.
Remember to check the dimensions - the photos are extreme close-ups.
Signed: MS (found on the bottom of the left front hoof - if you didn't know it was there and represented Michael Sanchez, it would be very difficult to make out)
