Destry Siutza Zuni Fetish Carver
Nice example of one of Destry's signature works, jet ravens (or crows). Jet is a finicky material to work, often cracking, messy, and difficult to polish to a shine. Every one of those cut lines is an invitation to the piece to crack while the carver is working it.
One of the most prominent of the extended Laate family of carvers, Destry is the Brother-in_Law to Derrick Kaamassee. Derrick is related to the late Pernell Laate, Elton Kaamasee, Ruben & Esteban Najera, Max Laate, Lewis Malie, Calvin Weeka, Jerrold Lahaleon, and Alvert Lamy. You can see the influences in his work.
