Artist/Source: Mary Tom (Mary Lou Tom), Navajo Jewelry - Arizona, USA
Native American Indian Jewelry
Award winning artist. Beautiful handmade set. This design The sterling silver necklace is comprised of (19) "claws", (58) oval beads (2) straight flutes, and (2) tapered flutes, and lobster claw hook. The claws taper in length and depth as they extend up the necklace. Earrings are (2) claws.
Mary was calling this her "fingernail" set but it reminds me of a bear claw necklace so that's what I'm calling it. Mary had not made this in quite a few years when I got her to "un-retire" it in 2011. I have sold several since then and have noticed she occasionally brings one to shows.
This design of Mary's is instantly recognizable, won an award at Indian Market when Mary first debuted it. As beautiful as all her square and round beads are, I have found this set stops people dead in their tracks.
Mary is a lovely person, great fun. You will often see her name in association with her former husband Jack, they now work independently. The last two Santa Fe Indian Markets, Mary has virtually SOLD OUT. This is quite a feat when you consider there were 1200 other artists from whom people could purchase.
If you look at my Mary Tom artist page you will see a photo of one of my customers wearing her bearclaw set.
