This is a signature style for the artist and is imitated with varying degrees of success. I have a few pieces of well-executed similar work by Monte Richardson. This was purchased when Thomas was not working, I have placed Monte's work on sale, it is a very good buy.
This style is sometimes referred to as "melon".
