Nelson Yatsattie, Zuni Pueblo, New Mexico
Nelson is an accomplished carver, as is evidenced by this work, and others I carry. This piece was done in 2015. A large amount of Nelson's more recent work is significantly larger (and more expensive) than this.
Some people might interpret this as a badger. I started that way but have changed my mind. You could also guess this as a badger although there are not the marks on the back that artists often, but not always, do for badgers. The stone is very interesting, half might be identified as Picasso, but honestly, the other side looks like serpentine. I'm going with serpentine.
