Artie Yellowhorse (Navajo) - New Mexico, USA
A large piece of natural Pietersite/Pietercite consisting of abstract sections of deep blue/black and heavily fibrous chatoyant light blues, golds, and greys. First found in 1962, there are only two known sources of Pietersite in the world, Africa and China.
It's a real challenge to photograph accurately because it changes colors in varying light. The two darker photos are the best representation of the basic color when not under direct light. The other photo had a bit of direct light on the piece from an angle. Unfortunately the beauty of the chatoyance is not adequately represented.
This is one of my favorite stones but Artie it's always hit or miss as to whether I can get any of it. The one's I'm starting to add were picked out in July but have just been completed. This is the first of the pendants I am posting.
The setting is Artie's stunning twist wire frame and handmade burst beads of sterling silver.
