Artie Yellowhorse, Navajo - New Mexico, USA

A lovely little cabochon of natural Pietersite/Pietercite consisting of abstract sections of deep blue/gold and heavily fibrous chatoyant light blues and greys. It displays Artie's incredibly difficult silver twist and burst bead work, all of which is hand done.

This is the first of two I purchased at same time.  Their overall color is almost identical but there are different inclusions and chatoyant effects in each. One is not "better" than the other, it is strictly personal preference.

This is one of my favorite stones.  It tends to be feast or famine getting it.  I have quite a few more pendants, mostly in blue, but no cuffs, earrings, or rings beyond what is already posted.

First found in 1962, there are only two known sources of Pietersite in the world, Africa and China.

It's very difficult to photograph accurately because it color shifts in every variation of light.  The accompanying photos show the piece under a variety of light conditions.  Unfortunately the beauty of the chatoyance cannot be adequately represented.

I've NEVER had someone tell me the pictures of Pietersite looked better than the item.

Check the dimensions-the photos are extreme close-ups
The photos are often MUCH larger than the actual piece
